Life In The New School

Well it's been 1 month and a half since I came to this learning establishment so it's not really new anymore. I've learned endless awesome facts here, and the students here are evolving in friendship really rapidly. We've seen some pretty gnarly stuff these past few weeks. Our chemistry classes especially, take a look at this, and to all of you who enjoy first impressions, this is not the stuff that you excrete out of your reproductive organs...

This white thick liquid, is corn flour mixed with water. Though playing with that mixture itself sounds nice, this "experiment" wasn't done to see how much we enjoyed it. This mixture strangely, is liquid-like and sticky at first, but after applying a small amount of force, it is able to almost immediately convert into a bouncy-rubber like substance. Apply even more force, like a punch, and it can feel like you're punching a brick wall. After that, i reverts back to a liquid state. Totally radical stuff, guess we humans can walk on liquid after all.

The next cool experiment we did was crystallization,we were split into groups and then we had to put coloured powder into a small amount of hot water in a cup, then lower a rock into the liquid using string. Then we left it in the chemistry lab for a week to settle and form. A week later, we went to recover our experiments. Other groups had their rocks completely encased in a thick growth of crystal, like so...

Our rock didn't change at all! Instead, crystal formed only above the rock, on the string...
It was funny that our rock was untouched, but when we went to the toilet to drain the water, what we found at the base of the cup was something truly amazing.

A cluster of monoclinic type crystals

Here's a side profile, to better see what monoclinic crystals look like. It's a bit like staglagtites in caves.

Other teams had different types of crystals formed too,

You may not be able see it, but there are small chunks of crystals in this pile.
We compiled all our bottom-cup crystals here, the huge glass-like circle in the middle is another huge crystal formation.
A more high definition pic here.

After awhile we got bored of this beauty, and decided to kick it up a notch with the power of refraction.
My team's one, refracting light sideways.

The huge semi-transparent crystal seen here glowing as well.

Here are a few more pics of the crystals. Enjoy...

Credits go to Olivia for taking the higher quality photos. Anyway I'll just end this post with a picture of Brendan being......Brendan...

...and another one of Mr.Guoy's homework!Should be interesting....

Anyways time to put an end to this long one, Au Revoir all....
